Steven McRoberts, UCA Head Coach

Fourth -year head coach Steven McRoberts will guide the Central Arkansas volleyball program into their third season as a NCAA Division I member after finishing 24-9 in 2007. The Sugar Bears also finished 10-6 in Southland Conference play and placed third in the East Division. In 2006, UCA finished with a 19-17 record in their first year of division I competition. McRoberts won his 300th match versus Southeastern Louisiana on September 1st, 2007. His overall coaching record is 318-122 (72.3%).

In 2005, McRoberts guided the Sugar Bears to a 24-14 overall record, ending a streak of 10 consecutive losing seasons.

McRoberts compiled a 251-82 (.754 winning percentage) record during his eight-year tenure at Lubbock Christian University in Texas. The Lady Chaps reached the post-season and finished in the NAIA Top 20 every season from 1998 to 2003. In 1998, McRoberts guided LCU to a 38-4 record and a fifth-place finish at the national tournament.

He won the Sooner Athletic Conference Coach of the Year award six times and NAIA Region VI Coach of the Year three times. The Lady Chaps won seven straight conference titles under McRoberts’ guidance. He has coached 14 NAIA All-Americans, 28 All-Region players and 36 All-Conference selections. His teams have done equally well in the classroom, producing nine Academic All-Americans.

McRoberts and his wife, Stacy, have a two-year old son named Jackson and a 3-month old daughter named Mollie.

 

Todd Hay, UCA Assistant Coach

Todd Hay will begin his third year as the University of Central Arkansas volleyball assistant coach. In his second season, Hay helped the Sugar Bears go 24-9 and finished in third place in the Southland Conference-East Division.

Hay comes to UCA from Trinity Christian High School in Lubbock, Texas where he served as head volleyball coach from 1998 to 2005. During his tenure at Trinity Christian, Hay compiled a record of 254-56 in eight seasons. He was named District Coach of the Year four times and guided Trinity to three 4A state titles, including back-to-back championships in 2004 and 2005.

In 2004, Hay led Trinity Christian to a 40-4 record and followed up with a 41-7 mark in 2005. TCHS was 31-1 in 1999 and won their first ever state title. Hay guided Trinity to the state semi-finals on two other occasions.

Hay has many other awards among his career, including two-time Lubbock Avalanche Journal City Coach of the Year, Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools 4A Coach of the Year and KJAK 92.7 Coach of the Year. He has coached 12 All-State players and six District MVP winners during his career.

Hay and his wife, Gema, live in Conway with their 5-year old son, Jeffrey Mark.

 

David McFatrich, UCA Assistant Coach

David McFatrich joins the UCA coaching staff, for a second year, after a successful career as both a coach and a player.

McFatrich has spent the last three years with the Little Rock Juniors club, where his team compiled a record of 109-38.

He is the former captain and setter for the Athletes In Action international volleyball team. McFatrich had several international playing opportunities, including contract offers from Mullhouse in the French Pro League and from VC Oostakker in the Belgium Pro League.

McFatrich graduated from the University of Arkansas in 1986 and earned his master’s degree in exercise science in 1988.

McFatrich and his wife, Sonya, live in Little Rock with their son Luke, age 9, and daughters Ellie Marie, age 6, and Sammi, age 2
